The Marvels is an upcoming American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to the film Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the television miniseries Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik.
The Marvels Plot
While investigating a wormhole linked to the Kree, Monica Rambeau’s powers become entangled with those of Kamala Khan and Carol Danvers. The trio team up to determine why they are swapping places with each other every time they use their powers. According to Larson, the film will dive deeper into Danvers’ character and her “complexities” after her origin story was set up in Captain Marvel (2019). Since the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Danvers has mostly been off Earth in deep space, with Larson saying she has “kind of became a workaholic, and she lost touch with her heart and with family and friends.

- Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel: An Avenger and former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot whose DNA was altered during an accident, imbuing her with superhuman strength, energy projection and absorption, and flight.
- Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau: A former S.W.O.R.D. agent who was exposed to extra-dimensional energy during the events of WandaVision (2021), gaining the ability to manipulate electromagnetic spectrum.
- Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel: A teenage Pakistani-American from Jersey City who idolizes Carol Danvers and has polymorphic abilities that allow her to alter her shape and size.
- Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn: A Kree revolutionary who is behind the creation of the wormhole that affects the powers of Carol, Monica, and Kamala1.
- Park Seo-joon as an undisclosed character.
- Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury: The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who went into hiding after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and later joined forces with a group of Skrulls in space.
The Marvels Release Date
The Marvels is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 10, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU. The film was originally slated for July 28, 2023, but was pushed back due to scheduling changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic5. The film will be available in IMAX and Dolby Cinema formats.
